Dispatch from the jungle
The Professor is off doing some research in the jungles of Belize. Well, not all research, and not all jungle -- there's plenty of Belikin beer involved, interrupted by the occasional rum punch.
The above photos are from the Mayan site known as Lamanai, or place of the sunken crocodile. The ruin was actually occupied by the Maya until AD 1650. It's rather remote, requiring an hour's boat ride up a river.

Professor,
Wow! You're down there and still blogging? I have heard there are some very interesting things down there. My brother in law, who resides near DC, and is a commercial pilot goes down there a lot. He has the capacity to visit the area frequently and study hieroglyphics as one of his favorite hobbies. Perhaps you know him...Captain Hutch?
Any good finds?
Howdy AJ,
Yep, I managed to scrape together one post while I was there. Don't know Captain Hutch, but he sounds like an interesting guy.
Belize is a wonderful country, full of amazing ruins and stunning natural beauty. Check out my flickr photos for some more snapshots:

Wow, I had no idea you were going. Seems strange as I was planning a trip down to the Ixtapa area or Central America this same week. Something came up though.
